A
tranquil place to sit and absorb the scenery and serenity of this
picturesque, award-winning, churchyard. Take a moment to listen to the
birds, perhaps see a squirrel, and marvel at God’s creation.

|
St
Giles church is an English Heritage listed building.
This Sundial, measuring the passage of Time, is one of a number of
listed monuments in the churchyard.

A
welcoming sight in summer is the colourful display of the borders as you
walk up the path to the church. The roses are in full bloom and various
annuals give attractive ground cover.

In
1991 St Giles church won the Coventry Diocese Best Kept Churchyard award.
It
is acknowledged that this was mainly due to the efforts of one Albert West,
who spent many hours tending the churchyard.
Today
his son Robert is carrying on the tradition of his father and has undertaken
the maintenance of the churchyard.
He
is seen here mowing, in the recently consecrated Garden of Rest.

|
St
Giles churchyard is classed as a ‘closed’ churchyard, in that no new
burials may take place, as it is full.
However, due to the generosity of Mrs Betty Startin, the recently
consecrated Garden of Rest
is
used for the Interment of Ashes. These Memorial Stones are inscribed with
the names of those placed in this area. |

CHURCHYARD AWARD 2004
In 2004 St Giles won the
Coventry Diocese ‘Best Kept Churchyard’ competition for the second time.
and
In 2008 St Giles won the Nuneaton &
Bedworth Borough in Bloom for the best kept churchyard. |
2009 ~ GREEN GENIES DO
IT AGAIN!!
We achieved FIRST PLACE
in the Best Kept Churchyard category of the Nuneaton and Bedworth In Bloom
competition. Thanks to the dedication of Robert West and the hard work of
the Green Genies. On the day the churchyard was judged the sun was shining
and the churchyard looked pristine thanks to our efforts a few days before
clearing up and tidying the old neglected graves. Thanks to everyone who
helped in the churchyard in any way at all this year. Well done Robert and
his Green Genies.
