This year the Mothers’
Union has celebrated 125 years, we now have over 1 million members in 60
countries. At St Giles we have two active groups.
The Afternoon group was
formed in 1891 and currently has 20 members. We meet on the first Wednesday of
each month at 2.00 pm in Church for a short Service, followed by a meeting in
the Small Hall, where we usually have an invited speaker and refreshments.
The Evening group was
formed in 1990 to give those who could not attend the Afternoon group the
opportunity to join this Christian World-Wide Organisation. Meetings are held on
the third Thursday of each month at 8.00 pm in the Small Hall and begin with
prayers, followed by a speaker. Topics range from the work of Mothers’ Union,
Parenting, Drug problems, Travel, Recycling, Missionary work, making icons,
discussions etc with the occasional meal out.
Members provide
assistance with Marriage preparation, Baptisms, Welcomers at the All-Age 11.15
am Service and of course, are great cake bakers! We support our Deanery at the
local Men’s Refuge Centre and are involved in the Shoe Boxes for Christmas
Appeal, Teddies for tragedies, items for Premature Baby Units and gowns for
Stillborn babies – all made with our love and prayers for those concerned.
We include two enrolled
men and all are most welcome to join us.

Group) and
