We
take our responsibility to provide nurture within the fellowship very seriously
at St Giles
HOME
GROUPS
There
are a growing number of home groups meeting around the parish which offer an
informal opportunity to study the bible together and to deepen fellowship.
CONFIRMATION
Each
year groups of children and adults meet to explore their faith.
Confirmation courses usually meet for a period of 4 months. The meetings
are weekly for the first 12 weeks in the run up to the service in church and
there are a series of follow up meetings. These gatherings are
opportunities to explore together issues of living and believing in the 21st
century. There are no expectations concerning prior biblical knowledge or
even a commitment to being confirmed. All that we encourage is the
willingness to be open, to enquire honestly and to listen sensitively to each
other. The Confirmation itself should candidates feel ready to go forward
is an opportunity to publicly ‘confirm’ their faith. The occasion is a
tremendous celebration with the Bishop presiding and a party to follow.
Candidates often express the desire to continue to meet and either a new
fellowship is born or members join existing groups.
YOUTH
Teaching
on Sunday is provided, in the first instance by the Sunday School and Kicks (the
senior group) and children are encouraged to play an active part in these groups
as well as contribute to collective worship where appropriate. We seek to help
children know the deep and unconditional love of God.
RETREATS
The
church goes on an annual retreat each year giving people time and space from the
busyness of day to day life. In addition to this extended period there are a
number of retreat days organised.
